MEDIA STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE JUSTICESA LAUNCHES "SHOW US THE EVIDENCE" CAMPAIGN JusticeSA has launched a public campaign calling for an independent and disaggregated assessment of who actually benefits from Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment and whether the policy measurably advances equality. The campaign asks the Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition and the B-BBEE Commission to publish beneficiary-level findings divided by household income and wealth. It also asks for objective criteria by which race-conscious measures can be periodically reviewed, reformed or ended. JusticeSA's supporting research contains a custom comparison between two equal-sized population groups. In the model, the selected wealthy non-white group has approximately 36% more average wealth than the white group while potentially retaining designated-beneficiary eligibility. JusticeSA stresses that the model does not prove that B-BBEE caused the wealth difference and does not quantify benefits actually received. The absence of that information is the reason for the campaign's demand. The campaign is based on four questions: 1. Who actually benefits? 2. What reaches poor households? 3. What objective criteria govern review and termination? 4. Does Government consider it fair and rational to treat white South Africans less favourably because they are white, and if so, what evidence and legal basis justify that differentiation today? The Government open letter also contains six additional questions on race versus present-day disadvantage and asks for a written response to each question separately within 30 calendar days of receipt. JusticeSA invites South Africans to sign the petition, share the campaign and send the open letter to the responsible offices. It calls for peaceful, lawful and respectful participation and rejects harassment or intimidation.
